Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama will visit Manipur on October 17 to deliver a peace conference here.
“His Holiness Dalai Lama will arrive here on October 17 to deliver a peace conference on October 18, said Manipur Assembly Speaker Yumnam Khemchand Singh here on Saturday.
The Dalai Lama has been invited to visit Manipur to bring message to the people of the state, he said while participating in a function to inaugurate an E-Cycle Showroom.
The Speaker was optimistic that the first-ever peace conference will spur more economic growth in Manipur and bring more peace into the life of the people.
He said tourism and trade are economically important for Manipur and that His Holiness Dalai Lama will experience the atmosphere of peace in the state.
“The peace conference will help spread this atmosphere throughout the globe attracting an international audience,” Khemchand said.
In the 1959 Tibetan uprising, the Dalai Lama fled to India where he currently lives as a refugee. The 14th Dalai Lama received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989.
Speaker Khemchand recently said a committee will be set up to oraganise the peace conference. The scheduld Dalai Lama’s Manipur visit comes after Khemchand personally invited him.
Khemchand called on the Dalai Lama in Himachal Pradesh where he attended a one-day workshop at Himachal University on September 1 last.
