Former two-time chief minister of Assam Prafulla Kumar Mahanta graced as chief guest on the open session held in connection with foundation day observation.Mahanta said that peoples of the state are wanting early proper implemention of thehsitoric Assam Accord through which NRC update job would be implemented in the state. He has emphasized that illegally immigrated peoples would be deported through the proper implementation of Assam Accord.

Mahanta has alleged the update of NRC has been delayed due to insicerity of centre government. He has demanded early completion of NRC update across the state and identify foreigners. He also expresses serious concern over the snail pace of impementation of Assam Acoord as the accord has passed three decades. ‘The persons who are recahed before 1971 they would be treated as citizen of the state, those who are recahed after 1971 they be treated as illegal migrants’, Mahanta said.

Lafikul Islam ahmed, president of the ABMSU said the students union has decided to move to Supreme Court (SC) seeking use of panchayat or other concern certificates in the NRC update as recently SC had verdict that panchayat certificate would not be valid document in the NRC update in the state.

Islam said the verdict given from SC over panchayat certificate’s invalid use in the NRC update was unacceptable. The NRC update should be implemented smoothly as per schedule of the project, but supplement document must be proper on the base of 1971 based year. ‘We support the proper implementation of NRC with strong spirit’, Islam said.

He said that update of NRC is a political arena for the ruling party BJP in their reign, so they are not intending to implement the NRC process in earliest manner.
