Amid an escalating protest in Assam over an Islamic fatwa in Hojai, local Muslim clerics denied any diktat against Nahid Afrid.
Talking to Assam Times over telephone from Hojai, Muslim leaders said that no where in the leaflet they have asked Nahid to refrain from any performance.
According to them, one after another cultural functions have been disrupting quietness in the area. Therefore, these local organizations have been vehemently opposing another function at Udali.
“We are disappointed with the organizers and not Nahid. But a situation has been created to allege that we are opposing the performance of Nahid who is not our subject,” said a local Muslim leader over telephone.
They further alleged that section of news channels have been spreading the rumour of the dates against to put the people in a state of utter confusion.
