Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) has ridiculed the diktat imposed by some separatist militant outfits of northeast India on observation of forthcoming Republic Day in the region and appealed to the people to celebrate the auspicious Day with fanfare.
It may be mentioned that various banned armed groups had recently issued a boycott call on the celebrations of 68th R-Day in the region and as a rhetoric they asked everyone in Western South East Asia (meaning northeast India) to remain at home on 26 January and avoid participating in any R-Day functions.
The rebel groups including CorCom, GNLA, HNLC, ULFA (I), KLO, NDFB, NLFT, PDCK etc also called for a total shut down in the region beginning from the midnight of Wednesday till the evening of Thursday. However, the JFA urged northeastern people to show their respect to the martyrs of freedom movement saluting the national flag on every R-Day and Independence Day. The forum argues that the Tricolour belongs to every Indian national and they should pay tributes to the known & unknown martyrs for their sacrifice by hoisting the flag in total defiance to the rebels’ unjustified diktat.
“We also appeal to various community based organizations of the region, which remain active in demanding all kinds of constitutional benefits all along the year, to hoist the Tricolour on R-Day and I-Day paying tribute to those martyrs, for whose sacrifice India becomes a sovereign nation today,” said a statement issued by JFA president Rupam Barua and secretary Nava Thakuria.
