In a major development that could put the BJP-led government in a fix, a BJP MP has demanded an enquiry into the allegations of scams during the 15 year long Congress Government.
Mongoldoi MP Ramen Deka in his recent letter to Sarbananda Sonowal has urged him to constitute a probe in to the major allegations which took place during the Tarun Gogoi regime.
“The allegations of corruption should be probed. This is my request. I have not taken anybody’s name individually,” Deka told Assam Times over telephone from New Delhi.
But the letter bears no less significance when a section of the ministers in the Sonowal Government was known for their vital role in the erstwhile Tarun Gogoi Government.
“Nobody should be spared. Corruption is corruption. We would weed out it. Our Government is firm on tackling corruption in all forms,” said a senior BJP leader in Assam.
A section senior Congress leaders is believed to have been satisfied with Deka’s letter demanding probe into the allegations of corruption in the 15 year long Congress regime.
“We are happy and a BJP leader has asked for an inquiry. We think it would reveal the real source or person behind the allegations of scams,” said a senior Congress leader in Guwahati.
“We dare the Chief Minister Sonowal to probe the allegations of scams and to figure out the person or persons responsible for it. But we will closely watch the action against the indicted person,” he said.
Another Congress leader said,” we are happy to have heard it. But it remains to be seen how the Government will take action against the ministers who till the other day were Tarun Gogoi’s cabinet colleagues and struck media headlines with some stunning allegations of corruption.”
