Pair of baby Himalayan bear rescued in Udalguri
Patrolling teams of Mazbat forest Range Office, under Dhansiri Forest Division, Udalguri and Army stationed at Mazbat successfully rescued an endangered pair of baby Himalayan bear calves recently near Assam-Arunachal border. According to MK Sarma,DFO,Dhansiri Forest Division, Udalguri, forest patrolling team headed by Mintu Boro rescued a pair of two months old baby Himalayan bear from the house of an Adivasi wood cutter in No.10 Nala Dalanibasti village in No. 2 Dhansiri tea garden in the night of May 15. According to the wood cutter,he had found the pair at No.10 Nadi in the afternoon of that day. Wildlife lovers alleged that the wood cutter had captured the pair for selling to poachers at higher prices. The calves were later handed over to Dr.Brindavan Phangcho, head of a team of experts from WTI (Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre), Chakrasila,Kokrajhar in the night of May 18 in sound health for further care and nursing.

A minor girl dead and dozen others fell ill after they consumed prasad served at a religious function in Udalguri district on Friday. The tragic incident took place in Kalaigaon area where a ten year old girl died early in the morning. At least 71 others have complained of stomach ace and vomitting hours after they consumed prasad. The deceased was identified as Dipsikha Nath who died at the Mangaldai Civil Hospital. Talking to media, ADC DN Hazariaka said that the incident took place hours after they consumed prasad at the house of Harakanta Nath on Wednesday.
