Anti-social acts in Nagaon on the rise; Administration on sleep
In the name of modernization and with the blessings of a section of fraudulent businessmen and their henchmen, there is a sharp rise in illicit trafficking of contraband ganja, locally made liquor, besides operation of dirt-game (
teer khel), open selling of pornographic CD's, gambling and other anti-social activities at various places of Nagaon.
During the investigation carried on by Assam Times correspondent, it is witnessed at certain places that these activities are creating an adverse affect on the populace, especially school or college-going students. It came to light during investigation that a few policemen are also involving in these activities. It is worth mentioning that with the involvement of these youngsters as prey, the lobby with the help of administration is reaping handsome profits thereby making the innocents to go astray.
Though there are a number of socio-political organisations in nagaon, they all seem to turn a deaf ear to the illicit business.

Acting on a tip off , Raha police on Tuesday arrested one person for trying to extort Rs 8 lakh from one Kanak Nath of Sariohtoli village under Raha revenue circle. According to police, the arrested Pranjal Deka had nexus with Tiwa insurgency group Tiwa Liberation Army ( TLA ) and came to Raha on an extortion drive at the instance of their leader Bidyut Amseng.
Former Congress minister and MLA of Batadrava constituency Goutam Bora’s Inova vehicle ( AS01 AK-1597 ) met with an accident on Sunday noon at Dighaliati area at Raha. A 29-year-old married woman was murdered at her residence at Uttar Petboha village under Raha P.S on Thursday night. Sharp weapon injury marks were found on the neck, breast, and stomach of the victim,Paree Saikia. When the neighbours reached the spot, the victim was lying on the bed and she had deep slits on her throat. Tapan Das , Headmaster , Nelipar Primary School and a former leader of Raha unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) who actively participated in Assam agitation passed away at his house at Chaparmukh following prolonged illness on Tuesday. He was 54. A popular personality of the area, he was loved and respected by all sections of people for his amiable disposition. He leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter. A pall of gloom descended at Raha and Chaparmukh as soon as the news of his demise spread. Different organisations, including Raha AASU unit have mourned Das’s demise.

The body of a man was found on a train that arrived at Chaparmukh junction from Tinisukia on Sunday, police said. The body, found under mysterious condition, was identified as Kiranjyoti Hazarika of Philobari, Tinisukia district. According to Chaparmukh railway police, the deceased was on his way to Guwahati from Tinisulia by the Brahmaputra mail. The cause of the death is yet not confirmed.
Normal life remains heavily paralyzed in Raha following a 12 hour bandh by the various local organizations who are dead opposed to the proposed AIIMS in North Guwahati instead of central Assam.
