Anti-social acts in Nagaon on the rise; Administration on sleep

In the name of modernization and with the blessings of a section of fraudulent businessmen and their henchmen, there is a sharp rise in illicit trafficking of contraband ganja, locally made liquor, besides operation of dirt-game (teer khel), open selling of pornographic CD's, gambling and other anti-social activities at various places of Nagaon.

During the investigation carried on by Assam Times correspondent, it is witnessed at certain places that these activities are creating an adverse affect on the populace, especially school or college-going students. It came to light during investigation that a few policemen are also involving in these activities. It is worth mentioning that with the involvement of these youngsters as prey, the lobby with the help of administration is reaping handsome profits thereby making the innocents to go astray.

Though there are a number of socio-political organisations in nagaon, they all seem to turn a deaf ear to the illicit business.

The depth of the problem can not be imagined. The principal of St. Anthony's School, earlier known as Junior Christ Jyoti is the kingpin of the drug racket. He was earlier based in Manipur and had to run away about 10 years back when he was caught dealing with drugs by militants. Now he has started the business in Nagaon and many dealers from Manipur frequently visit his house. Since some of his family members are still staying at Imphal he may be blackmailed by drug mafia and militants to use his premises at Nagaon. Another center is Bar 7 to 9 near ASTC Nagaon. It's co-owner is a Congress Zila Parishad member and carries a gun illegally. He is the lottery kingpin of Nagaon. His brother based at Siliguri is a smugler and drug mafia. Gambling and pornography continues in the bar till latenight.

What is the name of the Principal? Don't behave like the local media....look at the Bengali newspapers of Kolkata. They mention culprits openly. That is the mission of true journalism.
