An elephant and its driver were killed when a truck rammed into the animal on which three people were travelling on the national highway in Khetri area on Thursday. The tragic incident took place in the wee hours when the speeding truck hit the elephant as it was trying to overtake the tame animal which was coming from Sonapur to Jagiroad.
The elephant drivers Kamal Boro and his Mohan Basumatary fell seriously injured. Kamal was shifted to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to injury. Mohan is battling for life.
Hours after it, the female animal succumbed to its injuries on the National Highway.
