Bangaluru police have freed the son of a Congress MLA from Assam hours after he was accrested in a rape case where the victim died in a local hospital.
According to allegations, Rhituraj Phukan, the son of MLA was released from the Krishna Nagar police station on Thursday 24 hours after he was picked up along with his friend Pallav Phukan.
Both Rhituraj and Pallav allegedly raped a housemaid at a room who later succumbed to her injuries on Thursday forcing police to arrest the duo.
But police alegedly had to release Rhituraj at the instance of a circle of powerful political leaders.
