2nd TISS convocation held

Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS), Guwahati which was founded on March 2610 organized its 2012 convocation ceremony at the Indian Tea Association, Machkhowa Auditorium, on June 9th in the presence of the Chief Guest Prof. Mrinal Miri, Chairman, Indian Council of Philosophical Research and Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Guest of Honour, Shri Rajiv Kumar Bora IAS, Additional Secretary, Educational Department, Government of Assam along with other distinguished dignitaries. This year's convocation comprised a total of 170 students, out of which 2 were awarded M. Phil, 109 were awarded MA degrees in different specialisations, while 59 completed their BA. The event was chaired by S. Ramadorai and the degrees were conferred by Prof. Mrinal Miri. 

Dr. S. Parasuraman said "The Guwahati Campus of TISS has made significant progress in fulfilling the mandate that was accorded to it by the Governing Board and different governments of the Northeastern states. TISS Guwahati is growing to be a world-class social science institute in the region". He further added "TISS Guwahati campus is offering masters' degree programmes in cutting edge, inter-disciplinary areas of social sciences, in addition to a very innovative five year integrated programme in social sciences". 

On this occasion, Mrinal Miri, Chairman, Indian Council of Phiiosophica1 Rsearch & Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha said Guwahati campus of T1SS is new, and I am aware that the north — east will be the focus of the study and research for many of you, I have therefore chosen to speak, on this very special occasion, on aspects of the northeast which, in my view, deserve our reflective attention." He further emphasized the need to leverage the region's great diversity to increase academic visibility and improve knowledge production for a better, more confident society. 

S. Ramadorai, Chairman, Governing Board, TISS said, "I am delighted to say that in the last three years I have seen this campus grow despite the several challenges it has faced. The students have grown from 115 students in 2012, to 417 postgraduates, undergraduate and research scholars and many new courses have been added." He further added that "The campus has been partnering and collaborating with national and international universities and has also extended its services in building capacities of Government Organizations/Community/NGO functionaries."
