The North East Media Forum (NEMF) in New Delhi has urged Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to ensure safety and security of the journalists working in the north eastern states saying these scribes facing a great deal of trouble while discharging their duties and responsibilities. In a letter to the Prime Minister, the forum has said only the north eastern journalists are facing so many threats for fearless duties.
The journalist body further said if this continues they will find it completely difficult to write anything highlighting the activities of the government and also make the people aware of the ill impact of the various insurgent outfits operating in the region.
UDALGURI: The monsoon related fever has began to raise its ugly head in Udalguri district.Japan Encephalitis (JE), Malaria have started reporting and JE has already claimed a life. A native of Suklai area near Dimakuchi in Udalguri,Sangita Pathak(24) a mother of a three year old child who had been diagnosed with JE and was under going treatment at GNRCH for the past couple of days died on Tuesday. A pall of gloom descended in the area after her body was brought for last rites. The conscious locals have resented over the fact that the Indo-Bhutan border populace of the district were never apprised on the precautionary measures through awareness programmes. Sources in the district heath department stated that a malaria control team has already jumped into action. "We have directed a team of Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme(IDSP) to take necesaary measures said, Joint Director of Heath,Udalguri,Dr. Tayebur Rahman.
ITANAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed to have accelerated the pace of development of the north eastern region with a slew of initiatives during the last three years.
Addressing a huge public meeting in Itanagar organized to open the new secretariat building on Thursday, Modi said that he has instructed his cabinet colleagues to visit the region once in a month.
“Our government is not running from Delhi. It is running from the nook and corner of the country. I have issued the instructions to the ministers to visit the region to take stock of the development initiatives once in a month.
“An union minister keeps visiting the region once in a month. Doing something for the region sitting in Delhi is meaningless,,” said the prime minister.
Surface transport minister Nitin Gadkari, minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju Chief minister Pema Khandu, his cabinet colleagues were present in the public meeting joined by nearly 20.000 people.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday congratulated Pranab Mukherjee on his victory in the Presidential poll. Talking to reporters he exuded hope that he would provide guidance to the government and the country. Gogoi said,”On behalf of the people of Assam, I congratulate him and wish him all the best.”
