Crime against women: Pramila blames govt

BPF leader and former minister Pramila Rani Brahma blamed it all on the failure of the government for the rising incidents of crime against women.

In an exclusive interview with Assam Times, the Kokrajhar MLA said these incidents are taking place because of the government failure to ensure safety and security. She called Juliet Zonunmawi’s mysterious death an unfortunate incident in the national capital.

She said that repeated attacks on the north east students has already spread resentment among the peoples across the region. According to her, Delhi and Dispur have totally been failing to safeguard the interest of the common people.

She further lamented lack of stringent steps to counter these incidents and crimes against women. “We the people have been waiting for the BJP led NDA government to do something for the women. But that is not happening.

These incidents have refused to die down,” she said. She squarely expressed concern over the Karbi Anglong incident of witch hunting where a national level athletic was tied and tortured by villagers alleging practice of black magic at Dokmoka.

“The perpetrators must get exemplary punishment so that these incidents do not take place again,” said the BPF leader.
