A joint team of army and police had a narrow escape in Sivasagar district on Wednesday when suspected ULFA militants attacked them with a grenade.
The incident took place at Nimonagarh in Charaideo sub division when the militants threw a powerful hand grenade at a joint team of police and army during a combing operation in the wee hours. But the grenade did not explode much to the major relief of the security forces.
Combing operation is in progress to nab the perpetrators who left the spot immediately after the abortive attempt. No outfit has so far owned up the responsibility. But sources called it a handiwork of ULFA’s Paresh Baruah faction which is active in this area bordering Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
