Assam Rhino take on Salbagan
Assam Rhino from Tezpur is taking on Gossaigaon Salbagan Sports Club in the clash for the 17th Daoharu Mungkhlong Trophy-2014 at Dotma DASA ground in Kokrajhar on Tuesday. Altogether 12 teams are in the fray the trophy this time which kicked off on Monday. These include SBI,Bhopal(Madhya Pradesh),Dumdum Samanyay Samiti,Kolkata(West Bengal),Coochbehar MRSC,West Bengal, City Police,Guwahati,FCI,Guwahati,Udalguri Elevent. Barhungka Athletic Club in Kokrajhar defeated Rongjali Club Simlabagan,Santipur of Chirang by 2-1 goal in the inaugural match on Monday.

A Central Bureau of Investigation team has started its probe the killing of FCI's North east regional executive director P C Ram in Changsari. According to information, the officials of the investigation team are in talks with the Kamalpur police to receive the inputs. Led by CBI inspector S B Chauhan, the team has sent letters to five people seeking help to probe the case. The will soon give the sleuths the CDs they recovered from the encounter site where Dr Ram was killed in the ULFA custody. Dr Ram was kidnapped by ULFA April 27 from the city with his driver. Later the driver was released. He was killed while he was caught on a crossfire between police and ULFA members. The investigation later was handed over from Assam police to the Central Bureau of Investigation following Gauhati High Court intervention. On Thursday, the officer in charge of Kamalpur police station Labanya Talukdar and his investigation officer Ajit Saloi on came to the CBI official and held talks relating to the case.

The Assam State human right commission has ordered a probe into the alleged siphoning of a huge amount of money out of a grant for as many as 08 jails in Assam.
A division bench of its chairperson Dr Justice Aftab Hussain Saikia, member Tarun Pookan, on Friday issued a notice to the Assam Government to institute an inquiry into the allegation.
The order was issued after the Commission took sou moto cognizance of a news published in the vernacular dailylast week.
According to the allegations, the siphoning of a huge amount of money out of a grant of Rs.2 Crores and 50 Lakhs released by the then IG(Prisons) during 2014-15 in favour of 2(two) Supply Firms, viz., Tanmoy Enterprise and Rumal Enterprise, in an irregular way for the purpose of supplying food materials to around 2700 inmates of as many as 8(eight)Jails of the State under the Zones No. 2 and 3 respectively including at Morigaon, Nagaon, Diphu, Hamren, Golaghat Haflong, Karimganj and Silchar, as a result of which there has been no supply of food articles made by the said Firms to those Jail inmates since August, 2014.

Caught in an escalating protest against killing of Syed Farid Khan in Dimapur on Friday, Nagaland on Sunday blocked SMS and internet to disallow violence from spreading in the interstate border.
Official sources told Assam Times that the SMS and internet services have been blocked for 36 hours. They observed that SMS and internet have been fuelling the agitation in the Assam-Nagaland interstate border areas.
The SMS and internet would resume only at 6 in the evening on Monday. If need be, the authority would extend the period, they said.
