The Centre will help Assam tide over the flood fury. Rajnath Singh announced Rs 286 crore central share of disaster relief to the state after the Union home minister made an aerial survey on the worst-hit Goalpara and Kamrup (rural) districts on Wednesday.
Singh promised more funds once a detailed assessment of the extent of damage was done. Singh announced it after he met chief minister Tarun Gogoi.
Earlier, he made his day-long trip to the region during which he made aerial survey of flood-hit districts of Assam and adjoining Garo Hills region of Meghalaya.
