Poachers nabbed in Pobitora

Police have extracted some sensational disclosures on rhino poaching after they arrested two poachers in Morigaon district on Wednesday.

The duo were believed to have made a disclosure on the rhino poaching network and smuggling of rhino horn. Identified as Khairul Islam and Hanif Ali, the poachers were nabbed from the Pobitora Wilflife Sanctuary on Wednesday.

Members of NF Railway Employees’ Union staging dharna demanding to ensure the safety ands security of the Railway Staff that are deployed at the NC Hill Station after the serial brutal attacks by the militant groups on the railway employees as well as the local people at the Lakhidhar Bora Khetra in Guwahati on 16-05-08. Remarkably, on 15th March ’08 morning, ten workers working for a cement company brutally gunned down by the suspected DHD (J) group in the morning creating havoc among the people reside in that area.

Delhi police to grill Anil

Delhi police are seeking transit remand of Anil Chauhan in connection with a number of car lifting cases three days after the car lifting kingpin was caught in Guwahati.

A team of Delhi Police officers has been waiting in Guwahati seeking to grill Chauhan who is wanted in numerous car-theft cases in the national capital in the past several years.

“We have already declared him a proclaimed offender in as many as 76 car-lifting cases,” said a senior police official in New Delhi.

According to sources, Delhi police find it difficult to get Anil in transit remand right now. This has forced them to move the authorities seeking permission to grill him. 

Uneasy calm in Changsari

An uneasy calm prevails in Changsari on Tuesday a day after a women was killed in police firing.

Local residents in large number told Assam Times that the tragic incidents could have been avoided had the policemen deployed to deal with the simmering situation exercised restraint.

They alleged that police failed to properly deal with the situation which is why, the woman died when police fire upon the mob.         

The incident took place at Changsari in the afternoon when a local villager was trying to kill his 2 year old son following a clash with his wife.

Local residents in large number turned violent and attacked the person forcing police to step in.

A section of the local residents allegedly pelted stones at the policemen that turned the situation worse.

Policemen deployed had no option but to resort to firing where five persons sustained injury.

One of the woman succumbed to her injuries at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital.
