At least 25 Congress legislators have drawn up a slew of strategies to put chief minister Tarun Gogoi in a fix.
The meeting began at 7 in the evening at the residence of Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday where they are believed to have discussed strategies to mount pressure on the party high command to reconsider the candidates.
They have decided to lobby for a senior party leader and former MP whom they want to contest from Mongoldoi Lok Sabha seat.
Several legislators have formally opposed Ranee Narah as candidate from Lakhimpur saying that she wont be able to win the polls.
Apart from senior leaders Sarat Borkotoky and Abdul Muhib Mazumdar, several other MLAs loyal to Dr Sarma attended the meeting.
