Botanist Dr Biren Brahma no more
Kokrajhar: Botanist, Academician and retired prof of Kokrajhar Government College Dr. Biren Brahma expired today after a prolong illness at Lower Assam Hospital in Bongaigaon. A diabetes patient, Br Brahma was admitted to the hospital three days back.
He was in his 73 and leaves behind his wife, a daughter, and host of well wishers.
He retired as Prof of Kokrajhar Government College in 2005 and continue working as Academician in his various capacity. He was among the founder of Kokrajhar Science College. He also contributed as guest faculty of Bodoland university in the department of Botany. As academician,researcher and botanist his contribution to society is immense. He was the Pioneer in ethnobotanical research of Boro tribal medicinal system.
Brahma was also a gifted singer and has audio cassettes to his credit.
His body was first taken to Bodoland university and later to Kokrajhar Government College. His last rite was performed later in the afternoon.

Apurna Narzary, an international women's football player, has been nominated for the Emerging Player award for 2022-23 by the Sports & Youth Welfare department of the government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Narzary has represented India in several international events and is the daughter of Biswajit Narzary of Khagrabari village in Kokrajhar district. The award will be presented to her during the Baokhungri festival celebration at Baokhungri Hill site near Harinaguri in Kokrajhar. The award includes a citation, traditional Aronai, and a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh. The festival also featured a Hills trekking competition and traditional food showcase competition.
